Meskel Square, situated in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, has been the site of numerous public gatherings and demonstrations.
‘Meskel’ translates to ‘cross’ in English, commemorating when the cross of Christ was revealed to Empress Helena, mother of Constantine the Great.
Nearby is another cross, the four-way Meskel Square Intersection.
Despite the sheer size of the road, it surprisingly has no road markings or stoplights.
Watch below as chaos among cars, buses and pedestrians ensues.
