“I don’t have friends, I got family,” said Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), the much loved protagonist of the Fast and Furious series. The eighth installment however sees a twist that will break the bond of the close-knit crew.
The eighth movie of the franchise is called The Fate of the Furious and, in a surprising twist, Toretto is now the antagonist in this film. It’s difficult to imagine but the trailer shows him leaving his family and paring up with Charlize Theron’s character, Cipher. Now it’s up to the rest of the team to get Toretto and bring him behind bars, much to the dismay of everyone on board.
As always, cars are also the stars of the film. We see modern and classic muscle cars, as well as brutish SUVs. European sports cars also have a starring role and we even see a Lamborghini Murcialago making the most of its all-wheel drive system on the snow. The wild goose chase for Toretto brings everyone to Germany, Cuba, New York City and what appears to be the Arctic Circle.
This trailer does leave a few questions though. Why did Toretto betray his team? What does Cipher have that made Toretto fall under her spell? Has Toretto been brainwashed? It looks like we’ll have to wait for April 14, next year, to find out.
