No matter how good a driver one can be, there will always be one sense every driver should not be without: the sense of sight. Or is it?
In Vodafone New Zealand’s new stint, they’ve strapped their home-grown drifter Mad Mike Whiddett into his fire-breathing MADBUL RX-7 for a short blast around a closed course. This would normally be all in a day’s work for Whiddett, but Vodafone provided him with an entirely new challenge to his art; Perhaps since they didn’t want to get in the way of his intricrately designed Red Bull livery, Vodafone instead opted to place their logos on the last blank spaces of Whiddett’s car – the windscreen and windows.
Of course, even a veteran such as Mad Mike would be stifled by the fact that he can’t see out of his car; To get around this, Vodafone attached some cameras to his RX-7’s roof and provided him with a live-feed display right before his eyes in the cockpit via several smartphones. Given the speeds that drifting entails, the live feed must be quick to stream as well. Thanks to Vodafone’s 4G network however, the lack of natural visibility didn’t seem to bother Mad Mike as much from working his magic.
Do you think any of our local drifting talents can replicate this stunt? Or will they need more talent than Mad Mike to compensate for our slow internet speeds?
