It seems that not only automobiles, gadgets and video games are being blatantly copied by China.
Chinese filmmaker Zhuo Jianrong’s “The Autobots” may sound like a rip-off of the Transformers at first, but once you get a look of the movie posters, it is clear the Jianrong’s animated film is more of a copied version of Disney Pixar’s Cars.
The film in question, which premiered in China last July 4, carries similar styling especially the characters which were only given a slight revision in color and shape.
Jianrong maintains that he has not yet seen the movie Cars but only knows about it.
“I know of the movie Cars, but I have never seen it. I don’t even know the names of its characters,” said Jianrong.
We don’t know whether Jianrong is trying save face or is completely lying, but Walt Disney has reacted to the matter and has since send several letters to the Jianrong concerning about the film’s similarities with Cars.
“We share the same concerns as many netizens and movie fans in China but have no further comment at this stage,’ said a Walt Disney spokesperson.
Either this is one of the greatest coincidences in movie history, or the worst attempt in copying an already established movie franchise.
