We previously reported about Honda developing a sports hybrid successor of the S2000. It will apparently use the 2017 NSX’s hybrid powertrain and will have mid-engine layout. An imaginative digital artist Nism088 made a rendition of what he thinks could be the look of the third-generation roadster.
Called the ‘S2500’, it features a long hood and short rear which hearken back to roadsters and sports cars of yesteryear. The front fascia gets sleek projector-type headlights, along with a S660-inspired grill. The side is dominated by character lines and large gun-metal alloy wheels.
The S2500 render appears to have ditched the soft-top in favor of a retractable hard top. Also present on the two-door roadster are a rakish windscreen, compact side mirrors, and body-integrated roll bars.
Honda has yet to release the next-generation S2000 which saw production from 1999 until 2009. With a high-revving inline-four, lightweight chassis and convertible soft-top, the S2000 proved to be quite a favorite among the motoring public.
The exact engine to be used is still unclear though it is speculated it will either be a detuned version of the Civic Type-R’s 2.0-liter motor, or a 1.5-liter turbo derived from the all-new Civic.
