By this time perhaps every other joe out there associates the name ‘Ken Block’ with crazy slides, shredding tires, and interesting places to do skids and shred tires. With nine Gymkhana videos to his name, it seems like Ken Block and the team from Hoonigan Racing have no plans of stopping anytime soon; It seems for them, there’s no other way to go but up… a mountain.
In true Gymkhana fashion, everything ought to be exaggerated for that task. For starters, Hoonigan have decided to go against the most daunting mountain on the hillclimb calendar: Pikes Peak. The car they’ve chosen to thrash up the 12.42-mile (19.9 kilometer) road is the same four-wheel-drive ‘Hoonicorn’ Ford Mustang Block used around Los Angeles in Gymkhana Seven, and then some.
By ‘some’ we mean they’ve drilled holes on the Mustang’s bonnet and added a pair of turbochargers to the Roush Yates V8. Now pushing 1,400HP to all four wheels, the Hoonicorn now makes enough power to, in the words of Hoonigan Racing, “vaporize Block’s Toyo tires instantly.”
‘Climbkhana’, as this new flick is now being called, is set to make its debut sometime summer 2017. It’s a long wait, but with all the ingredients mixed in by Block and Hoonigan Racing it will definitely be worth it.
