It appears some people really do have more money than common sense. When a group of Chinese motorists took their fleet of Italian exotics out on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, it looked as if they did not expect the ‘highway’ to actually require fording small rivers and going through rutted dirt roads.
Despite encountering these obstacles however, the group led by a wealthy businessman named Ni Haishan subjected a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and 10 Maserati Ghiblis to the harrowing terrain. The Ghiblis were supposedly gifts to his employees, which would’ve been nice except for the fact that six of those Ghiblis were pretty much wrecked by the time they reached the finish line at Lhasa, Tibet.
Even the cars that made it to the finish sustained sizeable amounts of damage, the Ferrari for example went through several wheels and tires, including one wheel that apparently tore a wheel stud off the hub. As you can see in the photos above, the “Highway” isn’t exactly appropriate for high-end exotics such as Ferraris.
This trip was supposedly a way for Haishan to show that business was well for him and his company, and that people should trust their money with his firm. While it may say something about his spending power however, it definitely sends another message regarding his planning and foresight.
